As part of a university brief, I was tasked with designing a pop-up stand for an existing product. I decided to choose something personal, Yves Saint Laurent’s Y fragrance, which happens to be my everyday aftershave.
When I started researching, I noticed that a lot of YSL’s current displays tend to blend into the background. They often feature several products at once, which takes away from the impact of highlighting just one. What struck me even more was how little they captured the feeling behind Y, the mix of boldness, mystery, and quiet confidence.
So I wanted to approach it differently. My goal was to create something more immersive, something that would grab people’s attention and bring the character of the fragrance to life in a way the existing stands just didn’t. A space that felt like Y, rather than just another product display.
